Dr. Watts graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 2001, completed an internal medicine internship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in June of 2002 and then underwent radiology residency training at University of Alabama at Birmingham, completing residency and board certification in June of 2006.  After then completing a cardiothoracic fellowship equivalent Dr. Watts entered private practice in Carrollton, Georgia briefly before returning to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Watts served at UAB with an academic appointment from February of 2009 through June of 2018, as a member of the cardiothoracic radiology staff.  During his tenure at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dr. Watts was heavily involved with resident education, receiving multiple education awards as well as serving as the radiology primary investigator on NIH grant funded projects. He also served on several hospital committees, including leadership roles as Medical Director for UAB’s inpatient and Outpatient radiology departments. 

Dr. Watts is member of multiple professional societies and was elected Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians in 2010.  He has numerous peer-reviewed published manuscripts and invited regional and national lectures on cardiovascular CT and interstitial lung disease. He is also a certified ‘B’ reader for the classification of pneumoconiosis.  Dr. Watts joined Radiology of Huntsville in July of 2018.
