Body Imaging, also known as Abdominal Imaging, includes any imaging involving the organs of the abdomen and pelvis. Modalities include CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy. These are ways of imaging the liver, kidneys, spleen, gallbladder, and other organs, as well as the stomach and intestines.
Particular tests are chosen based on the type of concern. For example, the best test to look for gallstones is an ultrasound. This test can be supplemented with a HIDA scan to look at the gallbladder function. The stomach and intestines are often initially imaged with a fluoroscopy study such as an upper GI study or a barium enema.
