Women’s Imaging

Women’s Imaging encompasses breast health, obstetric and gynecologic health, and osteoporosis screening. We aim to aid in the detection of early breast cancer as well as improve outcomes for women facing the disease. Also, we strive to maintain communication with the referring physician. We offer assistance with discussing findings with the patient, assisting with a surgical referral, as well as appropriate follow-up with the patient.

Breast Care Services

Breast care services include:

    • digital mammography,
    • ultrasound,
    • ductography,
    • MRI,
    • BSGI,
    • and interventional procedures.

Digital mammography offers improved sensitivity of CAD (computer aided detection). Ultrasounds, in place of or in conjunction with other modalities, evaluate masses and perform biopsies. Ductography is an imaging procedure performed for bloody nipple discharge.

Breast MRI is an advanced modality used to screen patients with an elevated risk of breast cancer. It also assists in the surgical planning of patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer and other special circumstances, such as an augmentation complication.

BSGI (Breast Specific Gamma Imaging) is a nuclear medicine test of the breasts which can also detect breast cancer. The radiologists in this section perform interventional breast procedures. They can also provide, in most cases, same-day biopsy service under ultrasound, stereotactic, nuclear medicine, and MRI guidance.

Obstetric and Gynecologic Health Care Services

Obstetric ultrasound is available for first, second, and third trimester pregnancies. We also offer an obstetric MRI to pregnant patients to evaluate placental abnormalities, as well as abdominal and pelvic pain. These options are beneficial for the pregnant patient to reduce the risk of radiation exposure.

There are many modalities employed in the evaluation of gynecologic issues, such as pelvic ultrasound, pelvic MRI, PET imaging, and CT scanning. Each modality, individually or used in combination, helps evaluate patients with pelvic pain, newly diagnosed gynecologic neoplasms, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and other common entities.

Osteoporosis Screening

Dual-Energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) Scanning screens patients for osteoporosis. It also monitors osteoporosis treatments. This can be done in conjunction with the annual screening mammogram to save time for the patient.
